Speaking at the daily Government briefing, Dr Jenny Harries urged the public to only “travel if you need to” in order to limit the spread of Covid-19.
The goal of amending guidance and easing up on restrictions will come only when the magic five tests can be satisfied.
“We don’t yet know when that day will come, but I do know it will arrive sooner if motorists and others continue to only make essential journeys,” said Harries.
She also said “pretending we can jump out” of the coronavirus lockdown is not the answer.
Harries also paid tribute to the ‘transport critical workers’ who have gone above and beyond to keep vital freight and passenger services running, including keeping hospitals and chemists supplied with medical goods, ensuring supermarkets are stocked with fresh food and those maintaining deliveries of essential energy and fuel supplies.
It was also confirmed that there are no British holidaymakers left stranded on cruise ships anywhere in the world, following the Government’s efforts to bring any Britons home from oversees.
